I was recently asked by a friend if my knitting business name “Midsummer Knits” was because I tend to be focused on summery designs. Ironically, the name has nothing to do with that — it’s actually because I started out my Knitstagram with the punny username “midsummerknitsdream” and quickly realized that was terrible for search engines since it would (obviously) autocorrect to Midsummer Night’s Dream. I debated a few usernames which were a total switch-up, but ultimately decided that I liked just “Midsummer Knits”… and honestly, it is pretty fitting considering the start of my business has been more focused on tank top designs. I do plan to put out more accessory and sweater(!) designs this year, but I’ll always have a certain love for tank tops for being the thing that kicked off Midsummer Knits’ success. Plus, I just think hand-knit summer tops are underrated!

With that in mind, I have a test knitting call for a new button-up tank design! I’ve been noodling on a hand-knit version of the super cute button-up tanks I’ve seen in stores for the past year or two and I finally got around to finishing the first sample. As per usual, I spent way more time than is normal fixated on the little details of this design and I’m so pleased with how they turned out — the cute little cabled saddle shoulder, the armhole cable which aligns perfectly, and the folded hem with a Latvian braid (inspired by Em Knits’ Naomi Blouse) are all details I’m beyond obsessed with.

Some quick details for the test knit in case you’re interested in applying…

• Test knit runs for 10 weeks ending on June 18th

• Size-inclusive pattern with 10 sizes from 28–62” [66–157cm] bust and optional bust darts

  • Unfortunately the testing call is closed for sizes 3 and 4 (32–38” [81–97cm] bust) due to a high volume of applicants but all other sizes are open! Especially looking for sizes 7 (48” [122cm] bust) and up

• Made with fingering weight yarn — I used Emilia & Philomene Mme Philippon which is 50% wool and 50% cotton

• Knit seamlessly and flat (since it’s a button-up) from the top down

I was originally planning to close the test knitting call today (April 7th), but considering I neglected to send this email until now I’m going to extend the deadline until Thursday, April 9th.
